Step 1: Blue Zone

The journey with Ford BlueCruise begins in what Ford calls a “Blue Zone.” These are designated sections of pre-mapped highways where the system can operate hands-free. When you enter this area, you’ll get a prompt on the instrument panel letting you know that BlueCruise is available.

Step 2: BlueCruise Assist  

Once in a Blue Zone, the true magic of Ford BlueCruise comes into play. All you have to do is tap the Adaptive Cruise Control on the steering wheel and let BlueCruise Assist without taking your eyes off the road. Along with handling steering, this system adjusts your vehicle’s speed and keeps it centered in the lane. You can control the direction of your vehicle manually anytime.  

Step 3: The Magic of Hands-free Driving  

With your hands off the wheel, you can experience the unique sense of freedom that BlueCruise offers. You can switch lanes on the highway using Lane Change Assist, and the In-Lane Positioning automatically adjusts your vehicle’s position in the lane based on the current driving situation, all this without using your hands. 

A key component of the BlueCruise system is the driver-facing camera that tracks your eye gaze and head position, ensuring that even while your hands are off the wheel, you remain focused on the road. It ensures that you are still engaged and can resume control whenever the situation demands it.  

The external sensors used by BlueCruise are designed to create a 360° perception of your vehicle’s surroundings. This comprehensive situational awareness allows the system to keep your car centered in its lane and at a safe distance from other vehicles. It can also adjust to give more space to vehicles in adjacent lanes, enhancing overall safety and comfort.  

Ford BlueCruise relies on connected maps to identify Blue Zones. These maps are continuously updated over the air, ensuring you always know where you can use the hands-free feature. This smart mapping technology uses your vehicle’s geolocation to provide real-time information on Blue Zones.
